Angry Birds: Caleb's Version

Like most of the nation, Caleb loves Angry Birds.
He first played it on his trip to Illinois with my brother and sister-in-law.
Now, when he sees someone with an iPhone, he often asks to play.

I read once that creativity happens when resources are lacking.
And, we happen to lack the resources to play this particular game.
We don't have an iPhone...or an iPad...or anything else that might allow us to play it.
So, this little boy got creative and decided to make his own version
using alphabet blocks, cardboard bricks, a skateboard for a catapult,
and lego guys instead of angry birds.

He launches the blocks with the skateboard and tries to knock down the lego guys.
I love this kid.

Way too ambitious...

Aren't they pretty? I found them on Bakerella, a blog that my amazing-baker sister-in-law, Julia, mentioned on her blog. I fell in love with this site and couldn't wait to try her cakepops. It seemed pretty easy...just bake a cake out of a box, crumble it, mix it with icing, dip them in melted candy and voila!

Well, this is how mine turned out...

Nice sculpture, huh? I laughed a lot.

I did manage to get a few decorated. Nine total. Though I think thirty or so ended up in the trash, it still was a lot of fun making them. Practice makes perfect, I am sure, but I don't think I will be doing much practicing any time soon.

You have to check out her site! It's cuteness overload.

For you. Love, me.

A few of my friends have posted this on their blogs and I think it sounds really fun and creative. So feel free to comment and enjoy something fun from me to you!

The first 5 people to respond to this post will get something made by me! Lucky you!

My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2. What I create will be just for you.
3. It'll be done this year.
4. You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a story. It may be poetry or an article on properly cleaning your face before a mask. I may sew or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
5. I reserve the right to do something extremely strange. The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must re-post this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. Oh, and be sure to post a picture of what you win when you get it!

(Sidenote: I copied and pasted the above...I don't even think that five people read this, but it still sounded fun. I just got my camera back from Nikon yesterday, and an external hard drive is about to help me clear out some more space on my computer. So, I hope to start blogging again more regularly.)

Word Frames

I made a couple word frames as Christmas gifts this year, and they were SO FUN to make. I am putting a picture up for two reasons: 1) My good friend Heather asked me to, and 2) I want to say thanks to the people who gave me the pictures. I didn't take the pictures...just played with them in Photoshop and put them in Target frames. I got them off an amazing blog full of wonderful people who contributed them for people like me who didn't have time to go out and find all the letters I needed.

I just have a picture of one of them...the one I made for Mike and Melissa. The other is "Cross," Patrick and Hannah's last name. I might post that one too if I get a picture of it.

Thanks SO MUCH to all of you who shared your skills with us. :-)

Caleb's Room

I finally uploaded a few more pictures to our computer, and so here is the one room we have finished.

This is my favorite room of the house at this point.  It was really fun to do because I have wanted for a long time to use both magnetic paint and chalkboard paint, and Caleb's room offered the perfect opportunity.

I decided to go with a transportation theme in his room because he loves all things having to do with construction vehicles, planes, bikes and cars.  He calls construction vehicles "mo-mos" and planes "sky."  I find it quite cute, really.

The transportation theme is actually mixed with the alphabet theme from his nursery, but I don't think he minds too much.  :-)

Brandon took down the wood paneling in the room.
He got help from some friends (Thanks, Joe, Joe and Phil).
He (they) did an amazing job.

We also replaced the carpet in the room.

I did the taping of the road and the magnetic primer.
My amazing husband did the rest.
The blue is supposed to be sky, and the green is grass.
I don't think I am going to take the theme much further,
but if you have any thoughts I would love to hear them.

I love how much light comes in this room.
I don't even know if I want to put window treatments up.  I like the tree view outside too.

I painted his closet door with chalkboard paint, and it worked so well.
It took three coats, but he loves it.

The road is magnetic, and these are little painted wooden cars
I bought at Hobby Lobby and put magnets on the back of them.
Caleb loves these too, and I am planning on making some more soon.
